Black Muslim Men United for a Better Philadelphia (BMMU) is dedicated to dynamically improving the quality of life in our communities through resident-driven programs and services.

Black Muslim Men United for a Better Philadelphia (BMMU) is a dynamic nonprofit organization headquartered in the vibrant Germantown section of Philadelphia. For three decades, we've been dedicated to enhancing the fabric of our communities through resident-driven programs and services that uplift and empower.

At BMMU, our mission is clear: to foster positive change and enhance the quality of life across Philadelphia. We believe in a holistic approach, addressing the diverse needs of our communities through a comprehensive range of initiatives.

Our innovative 4-step model focuses on Spirituality, Education, Entrepreneurship, and Civic Awareness. Through these pillars, we aim to not only address immediate challenges but also to cultivate lasting transformation in the lives of Young Black Men.

Recognized by Philadelphia's Anti-Violence Initiative and the CEG program, our impactful work has received commendation and support. Our success stories speak volumes, as we've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of our programs in guiding Black Men towards meaningful and positive pathways.

Executive Director &

Sr. Crisis Intervention Specialist

Imam Suetwedien Muhammad

Imam Muhammad is the resident Imam of Masjid Muhammad and Masjid Isha, located in one of Philadelphia's most challenging areas. Over the past 40 years, his activism has facilitated numerous truces among major drug dealers and helped mitigate violence in the community.

Deputy Executive Director &

Crisis Intervention Specialist

Aquil Ali

Aquil brings extensive organizational and outreach skills to BMMU as the Deputy Executive Director. With a background in crisis intervention and community engagement, he has played a pivotal role in establishing BMMU as a prominent stakeholder in the community. Aquil is also the founder of A Management Inc, a consulting firm with 30 years of experience.

Program Specialist

Imam Isa Abdul Matin

Imam Matin has been the leader of Masjid Quran for 35 years, bringing extensive educational experience to our team. With a background as a school principal and martial arts instructor, he has dedicated himself to community activism, organizing rallies, clean-ups, and marches in North Philadelphia for over two decades.

Program Specialist

Imam Yusef A. Jamaluddin

For over 30 years, Imam Jamaluddin has led Masjid Taha in Frankford and played a vital role in the Northeast Ministerium Religious Organization. As a community leader, he has been actively engaged in outreach and religious programs, including heading the Religious Dawah program at Masjid Ashura for over 20 years.

Community Support Lead

Ismail Muhammad

Born and raised in Germantown, Ismail understands firsthand the challenges facing our communities. Through counseling and mentorship, he has worked tirelessly to provide young black males with spiritual guidance and positive alternatives, ultimately saving lives and fostering positive change.

Crisis Intervention Specialist

Lisa Driver

Treon serves as a Crisis Intervention Specialist at BMMU, with a focus on mentoring and youth empowerment. Raised in Philadelphia's Uptown section, he is passionate about teaching youth to think critically and pursue entrepreneurship as an alternative to criminal activities. Treon's dedication to empowering youth and fostering positive change exemplifies BMMU's commitment to creating a better future for all.
